NEW YORK -- Elena Vasquez's debut novel "Shadows of Tomorrow" reached the top of the Publishers Weekly indie fiction bestseller list this week, just two months after its August release by indie press Horizon Books. The book, set in a near-future America grappling with climate collapse, has sold 25,000 copies nationwide. Vasquez, a former journalist from Austin, Texas, signed a two-book deal with the publisher last year.

The novel draws on Vasquez's reporting experience in disaster zones, blending speculative fiction with real-world environmental data. Early reviews in The New York Times and Kirkus highlighted its timely warnings about resource scarcity, contributing to word-of-mouth buzz among book clubs and online communities.

"This isn't just a story—it's a wake-up call based on the crises I've covered firsthand," said Vasquez, 38, who lives in Austin. "Readers are connecting because they're living these fears right now."

"Shadows of Tomorrow" is available in hardcover ($26.99), paperback ($16.99) and ebook ($9.99) formats through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Bookshop.org. Vasquez will appear at the Texas Book Festival in Austin on Nov. 10.
