**Elena Vasquez Releases Debut Novel 'Whispers in the Wind'**
*The historical fiction work draws on family stories from World War II Europe.*
NEW YORK -- Elena Vasquez released her debut novel "Whispers in the Wind" on Tuesday through HarperCollins Publishers. The book, set in occupied France, follows a young woman's efforts to smuggle messages for the French Resistance. Vasquez, a former journalist, spent five years researching the story using her grandmother's wartime diaries.
The 320-page novel arrives amid growing interest in WWII narratives, with similar titles dominating recent bestseller lists. Vasquez conducted interviews with survivors and visited sites in Normandy for authenticity.
"This isn't just history—it's the voices of people who risked everything for a chance at tomorrow," said Vasquez, 42, of Brooklyn. "My grandmother's notes showed me how ordinary lives became extraordinary under pressure."
The book is available in hardcover ($28), e-book ($14.99) and audiobook formats through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and independent bookstores. Vasquez will appear at the Brooklyn Book Festival on Oct. 20.
ABOUT ELENA VASQUEZ: Elena Vasquez is a Brooklyn-based author and former investigative reporter for The Daily News. "Whispers in the Wind" is her first novel. She holds a master's degree in history from Columbia University.
