AUSTIN, Texas -- Elena Vasquez released her debut novel "Whispers in the Wind" on Tuesday through indie publisher Sagebrush Books. The 320-page story follows a young rancher's struggle amid a family feud. Vasquez, 34, wrote the book over three years while working as a schoolteacher.

The novel is set in rural Texas and explores themes of inheritance and resilience through the eyes of protagonist Lila Grant. Early reviews from regional outlets note its authentic portrayal of ranch life, with one critic calling it "a grounded take on family dynamics." Sagebrush Books printed an initial run of 5,000 copies.

"Writing this felt like corralling ghosts from my own childhood—messy, but real," Vasquez said. "I wanted Lila's voice to cut through the wind, not whisper platitudes."
The book is available in hardcover for $26.99 and ebook for $9.99 at major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and independent bookstores nationwide. Vasquez will appear at the Texas Book Festival on Oct. 26.
