**Debut Novel 'Echoes of Exile' Hits Bestseller Lists**
*Sci-fi thriller sells 75,000 copies in launch week across major retailers.*
NEW YORK -- Sci-fi author Elena Vasquez's debut novel "Echoes of Exile" debuted at No. 3 on the New York Times bestseller list one week after its Oct. 8 release by Orbit Books. The book, set in a dystopian world of interstellar refugees, has drawn praise for its exploration of identity and survival amid corporate collapse. Vasquez, a former journalist, signed a two-book deal following a heated auction among five publishers.
The novel's rapid ascent follows strong pre-orders fueled by endorsements from genre influencers and early reviews in Publishers Weekly and Kirkus, which called it "a gripping entry into hard sci-fi." Distribution includes major chains like Barnes & Noble and independent stores, with audiobook rights acquired by Audible.
"Elena spent years reporting on migration crises, and those stories shaped the heart of this book—it's not just escape, it's a warning," said Vasquez, reached at her Brooklyn home.
Industry observers note the title's performance amid a 12% rise in sci-fi sales this quarter, per NPD BookScan data.
"Echoes of Exile" is available in hardcover ($28), ebook ($14.99) and audiobook formats through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and independent retailers. Vasquez will appear at the Brooklyn Book Festival on Oct. 20 and a virtual launch event on Oct. 22.
ABOUT ELENA VASQUEZ: Elena Vasquez is a Brooklyn-based author and former investigative journalist whose work has appeared in The Atlantic and Wired. "Echoes of Exile" is her first novel. She holds an MFA from Columbia University.
