**Debut Thriller 'Echoes in the Dark' Debuts at No. 12 on NYT List**
*Alex Rivera's novel about AI surveillance climbs charts in first week of release.*
NEW YORK -- Alex Rivera's debut thriller "Echoes in the Dark" debuted at No. 12 on The New York Times bestseller list this week, less than seven days after its nationwide release. The book, published by HarperCollins, follows a hacker uncovering a corporate AI plot in a near-future America. Rivera, a former cybersecurity analyst, drew from real-world data breaches for the plot.
The novel has sold 25,000 copies since its Oct. 1 launch, with strong pre-orders from independent bookstores and major retailers. Early reviews highlight its timely take on privacy erosion, amid ongoing debates over tech regulation.
"This isn't just fiction—it's a wake-up call based on patterns I've seen in the field," said Rivera, 38, of Brooklyn. "People are starting to realize how much of their lives is already tracked without consent."
Advance reader copies distributed to 200 influencers generated 50,000 social media impressions before launch. The book is available in hardcover, ebook and audiobook formats through major retailers. Rivera will appear at the Brooklyn Book Festival on Oct. 20.
