**Debut Novel 'Echoes of the Forgotten' Secures Film Rights Deal**
*Elena Vasquez's thriller sells adaptation rights to Paramount Pictures.*
NEW YORK -- Elena Vasquez's debut novel "Echoes of the Forgotten" has sold film rights to Paramount Pictures in a seven-figure deal, the studio announced Wednesday. The book, published by HarperCollins last month, follows a linguist unraveling a Cold War conspiracy through lost audio recordings. Paramount plans development with Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin attached to adapt.
The 320-page thriller has sold 50,000 copies in its first four weeks, landing on the USA Today bestseller list. Vasquez, a former CIA analyst, drew from declassified documents for the plot, blending historical fact with fiction. Industry observers note the deal as one of the quickest film sales for a debut in recent years.
"Our world is full of hidden stories waiting to be decoded, and 'Echoes' captures that urgency," Vasquez said. "I'm thrilled Sorkin sees the same potential -- this could bring those echoes to life on screen."
HarperCollins reports strong preorders driven by early buzz from thriller festivals, with audiobook rights also optioned by Audible. The novel is available in hardcover, ebook and audio formats through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and independent bookstores. Vasquez will appear at the Miami Book Fair on Oct. 20.
ABOUT ELENA VASQUEZ: Elena Vasquez is a former intelligence analyst and author of "Echoes of the Forgotten," her first novel. She holds a master's degree in linguistics from Georgetown University and lives in Washington, D.C.
