CHICAGO -- Elena Vasquez, a Chicago elementary school teacher, released her debut novel "Echoes of the Forgotten" on Oct. 10 through independent publisher Willow Press. The book chronicles a Mexican-American family's migration story during the 1940s Bracero Program. Vasquez spent five years researching archives and conducting oral histories for the project.

The 320-page novel has secured distribution through Ingram and is available in hardcover, ebook and audiobook formats. Early reviews from Midwest independent booksellers note its authentic portrayal of labor migration challenges, with one calling it "a vital addition to Chicano literature."
"Elena’s work shines a light on stories my own grandparents lived but rarely shared," said Vasquez. "It’s not just history—it’s a reminder of the resilience that built our communities."
The book has preorders topping 5,000 units, bolstered by partnerships with the Chicago Public Library system for author events. Vasquez will appear at the Chicago Tribune Festival of Books on Oct. 20 and the Latina Authors Conference in November.
"Echoes of the Forgotten" is available for $26.99 hardcover at major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and IndieBound.org, and through local independents.
