NEW YORK, NY -- Alex Rivera, a former investigative reporter, released his second thriller novel, "Echoes in the Dark," on Tuesday through independent publisher Black Oak Press. The book, set in rural Michigan, follows a detective unraveling a series of disappearances linked to a decades-old mill fire. Rivera drew from public records of actual cases during three years of research.
The 320-page novel expands Rivera's debut, "Fractured Lines," which sold 15,000 copies in its first year. Early reviews from Midwest booksellers highlight its atmospheric tension and historical details, with one independent store in Detroit ordering 200 copies for local events. Black Oak Press reported pre-orders surpassing initial print run projections by 20%.
"These stories from small towns deserve to be retold, not sensationalized -- I wanted readers to feel the weight of what's left unsaid," Rivera said.
