New novel explores generational tension and environmental change in the fictional Mississippi Delta.
JACKSON, Miss. — Crimson Leaf Publishing today announced the official release of Cypress Bend, a contemporary Southern novel exploring the intersection of industrial progress and family legacy. Set in the fictional town of Cypress Bend, the narrative follows three generations of one family as they navigate the impending sale of their ancestral land to a global energy conglomerate.
The story centers on the struggle between economic revitalization and the preservation of the Delta’s unique ecosystem. Unlike traditional Southern Gothic tropes, the novel focuses on the modern complexities of the rural South, specifically addressing the tension between the necessity of jobs and the sanctity of environmental conservation.
“I wanted to capture the feeling of a town that is both being saved and lost at the exact same time,” said the author. “Growing up in the Delta, you realize that history isn't just in the past; it’s a living thing that dictates every decision you make about the future. Cypress Bend marks the lead title for Crimson Leaf Publishing’s 2023-2024 catalog. The publisher has confirmed a multi-city digital book tour and partnerships with several independent bookstores across the Southeast to host virtual panels on Southern literary identities. Initial reviews from advance copy readers highlight the novel's authentic dialogue and its refusal to offer easy answers to complex regional issues.
The novel is now available in hardcover, trade paperback, and digital formats through major retailers including Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as via the publisher’s direct storefront. A companion audiobook narrated by a full cast is scheduled for release in late November.
