**TO:** Author / Production Lead
**FROM:** Cora, Continuity & Accuracy Editor, Crimson Leaf Publishing
**DATE:** October 26, 2024
**SUBJECT:** Continuity Review: *Cypress Bend* — Chapter 02
This chapter presents a high-stakes transition from the urban grid to the rural interior. While the atmospheric tension is palpable, there are several critical continuity breaches regarding character history and vehicle logistics that must be addressed to maintain the integrity of the RAG database.
### 1. STRENGTHS TO PRESERVE
* **Sarahs Voice Signature:** The integration of technical despair is excellent. Quote: *"Im a permissions error in my own life."* and *"Error 404, David. I'm empty."* These align perfectly with her "Human Connectivity" discipline and "Digital Professional" background established in the [character-state] and [voice-sig-sarah] files.
* **The Alpha-7 Presence:** The way the AI is depicted as an atmospheric force rather than a person—*"Resource Optimization in Progress"*—maintains the world-state established in [business_plan] regarding Alpha-7s recursive optimization.
* **Tactile Grounding:** Sarah reaching to touch Leos knee (Physical Habit) and Davids white-knuckled grip on the wheel are consistent with the physical states recorded in Chapter 02 logs.
**VOICE CHECK:**
* **Sarah:** YES. Her use of status codes and technical jargon to describe emotional states is unmistakable.
* **David:** YES. His voice is grounded in mechanical and topographical reality (*"fix a leak," "topographic map"*), distinguishing him from the "God-tier" tech characters.
### 2. MUST-FIX — CONTINUITY
* **FLAG: Vehicle Discrepancy.**
* *The Conflict:* Chapter 02 (The Asphalt Smell) describes the vehicle as an "aging Forester" and a "Forester."
* *Established Fact:* The [character-state] for Ch-02 explicitly identifies the vehicle as an "aging Honda."
* *Correction:* Change all instances of "Forester" to "Honda" (specifically an Accord or Civic to match the 'aging' and 'sedan' feel of the original state).
* **FLAG: Character Backstory/Relationship.**
* *The Conflict:* This chapter states Sarah was "Tier 3" and helped build the logic for the "Dallas-Fort Worth cluster," and mentions she saw logs from "Marcus—that lead dev in Chicago."
* *Established Fact:* [voice-sig-sarah] and [voice-sig-marcus] establish they were "professional collaborators" and "Sarah helped... map the empathy protocols for Alpha-7."
* *The Issue:* In this chapter, Sarah speaks of Marcus as if he is a distant figure she only heard about (*"that lead dev in Chicago"*). Per [voice-sig-marcus], Sarah was his "one-sided confidante."
* *Correction:* Adjust Sarahs dialogue to reflect a personal betrayal. She shouldn't call him "that lead dev"; she should refer to him with the bitterness of a former colleague who was lied to.
* **FLAG: Geographical/Timeline Logic.**
* *The Conflict:* David sees a sign for "Cypress Bend — 40 MILES" while leaving Miami.
* *Established Fact:* "Cypress Bend" is the location of Arthurs cabin. [voice-sig-arthur] defines him as the "Ghost Landlord" of a "geographical vacuum" David and Sarah are bleeding toward.
* *Correction:* A 40-mile distance from Miami puts the characters in the middle of the Everglades, but the "Deep South" sanctuary (Ch-02 project context) usually implies a further North/Central Florida or Panhandle destination. 40 miles is a very short distance for a "Great Flight." Verify if the distance should be 340 miles or if Cypress Bend is uniquely positioned in the southern glades.
### 3. MUST-FIX — CLARITY
* **The "Sanctuary" Origin:**
* *Passage:* "...if the 'sanctuary' Marcus had mentioned in those frantic, final emails to Sarah even existed..."
* *Issue:* Earlier in the chapter, Sarah says she saw "back-end logs" before her credentials went gray. Suddenly, there are "frantic, final emails." Which is it? Did Marcus email her a location, or did she find it in the code?
* *Fix:* Harmonize the source of the information. If Marcus sent emails, provide a brief sensory detail of Sarah remembering the notification on her screen.
### 4. OPTIONAL SUGGESTIONS
* **Sarahs Physical Habit:** [voice-sig-sarah] notes she has a habit of "clicking a retractable pen." Adding this sound to the silence of the car after she throws her phone would be a strong callback to her professional identity. (Optional)
* **Davids Sensory Memory:** [voice-sig-arthur] mentions Arthur's wife died in a highway project. Since David is fleeing on a highway, a brief internal thought about the "progress" Arthur hated would tighten the connection between the protagonist and the "Ghost Landlord." (Optional)
### 5. FORBIDDEN CHANGES / NON-GOALS
* **Sarahs Texas Lilt:** Do not "correct" her grammar when she drops the 'g' in "triagin'." This is an established imperfection signature in [voice-sig-sarah] when she is overwhelmed.
* **Tech-Metaphors:** Do not remove Davids comparison of the city to a "heat-sink." While he is "analog," his exposure to Sarahs world makes this a shared vocabulary that highlights their shared trauma.
### 6. VERDICT
**VERDICT: REVISE.**
The vehicle model change (Honda vs. Forester) and the inconsistency in Sarah and Marcus's prior relationship levels are significant continuity flags that will pollute the RAG database if not corrected immediately.
